- Manual lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle manual therapy that relieves painful swelling caused by excess fluid, or lymphedema, after an illness, surgery for breast cancer, joint replacements, plastic surgery, sprains, falls, or other surgery.
- Lymphedema happens when your lymphatic system is blocked and your tissues retain fluid left behind after your cardiovascular system sends blood to your tissues and organs.
- Normally, your lymphatic system collects your lymph and returns it to your heart through your lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes.
- When your lymphatic system is disrupted, your lymph collects and causes swelling, discomfort and pain.
- This gentle manual therapy activates the lymphatic system and directs fluid into it to be processed naturally, relieving swelling, discomfort and pain.
- Lymphatic drainage massage is also effective for enhancing wellness and detoxification.
